ORGANIC COMPOST INFORMATION

Winkfield's Organic Garden Compost is 100% recycled and ideal for use around the garden on fruit, vegetables, herbs, trees, shrubs, perennials, bedding plants, roses and lawns.

Why Do I Need Compost?

Some garden soil is good for growing plants, but soil can vary greatly in condition, even when it is in the same garden.

Adding compost, especially 100% recycled, peat free, organic compost helps to provide the right growing conditions, which will ensure you achieve bigger and healthier plants or flowers.

Autumn is the best time to plant permanent bed and border plants, this gives the roots time to establish before winter.

When planting in pots, make sure the pot has good drainage holes. You can then add a layer of stones, gravel or broken plant pots to provide a good drainage layer.

Saving Compost

All compost should be used within a year, after this time the nutrients will diminish. It is best to store your remaining compost bag in a dry place and roll the top over to keep it moist. Another good way to store compost is to use fabric shopping bags, which also make great containers, but because the bottoms stay so moist, they must be stored on a non-wood surface that will not rot.
